MEDITATION AS A GIFT FOR OVERTHINKING MINDS

My experience after learning to meditate and practising regularly for only a few weeks

August 18, 2022

When I first learned to meditate, almost 20 years ago, I became more focused and productive, but an even more transformative benefit was that I felt pretty invincible emotionally.

And who wouldn’t want this in today’s world?

No more overthinking, no more reacting or getting triggered by people and situations.

I was able to pause and respond. I felt my emotions no longer had hold over me (as it often felt prior).

I can best describe that feeling as having an invisible buffer field around me, and anything that came in from the outside that would stress or upset me before, was simply absorbed and neutralised by this buffer.⁣

I felt centred, happier, and more disciplined, which of course led to productivity and results too. I was at university at the time, and instead of wasting whole days on ‘studying’, half the time procrastinating about it, I’d get it all done in half the time and get to spend the rest of my time just enjoying life.⁣

And it still has this effect on me to this day.

In full transparency, I've had times when I was more and times when I was less regular with my meditation practice. But I can clearly notice that when I meditate regularly, I'm at least 100% more focused, even-keeled, productive, enjoying life and feeling positive about the future.⁣

I am more aware of my emotions, able to choose and stay present, instead of being swallowed by the intensity that my emotions can be.

The best thing might be that meditation now often feels like a welcome pause instead of a ‘thing to do’.

If you’re intrigued by getting the benefits of meditation into your life, know that it doesn’t need to take long either.

When I first started I did spend 20minutes meditating twice a day (which now seems like A LOT). While I still like that today I no longer think it’s required.

When short on time, even 5minutes once or twice a day makes a difference and brings me to centre.

It’s simply one of the best self-care practices for me.⁣

Now I’d love to hear - what helps you to be more calm, centred and productive? Have you tried meditation?⁣ Do you have another tool that works for you?

Wishing you wellness (and emotional invincibility),⁣
